Literary Blog Hop

Literary Blog Hop

The Blue Bookcase hosts this awesome new-ish blog hop, and I'm happy to participate! This week's question is:
How did you find your way to reading literary fiction and nonfiction?

I've had a great love of reading since I was very small. My earliest memories of books revolve around my mother reading to me every night for many years. We delved into many classics, such as the Hobbit and the Chronicles of Narnia and Little Women, A Little Princess and The Secret Garden, as well as many "biographies for kids" called Value Tales, which featured the lives of many prominent figures in history. So through that I not only gained a love of descriptive literary prose, but also of learning about the people and events that have shaped our past and, therefore, our future. I owe it all to my mom, and I will happily pay this gift forward when I have children of my own.

I look forward to hearing about your literary beginnings!

My mom read to me every night when I was growing up to. Without her I probably wouldn't have learned to read so quickly and definitely wouldn't love books as much as I do.

It's wonderful that your mom read so many classic children's books for you. I remember reading some of the classics with my dad which helped me understand how great literary fiction can be.

Nice. I encourage the children at my school who are too young to read independently to pick books their parents or older brothers and sisters can read to them.

Here is my post for the Blog Hop.

So many of us share the luck of having parents who read. That is so important in developing into a reader. My thoughts are at eclectic/eccentric

I think that reading aloud to kids that are fully capable of reading themselves is quite underrated. It's not only an excuse to expose them to some books that might be too difficult for them to get through by themselves, but it is such fun to share a literary experience!

Sadly, my sisters and I were about the only readers in our family....my brothers didn't want any part of books. :)

What wonderful answers and stories from everyone.
